Is an inflatable kayak good for fishing offshore?
I know that a real kayak is more beneficial, but is an inflatable one ok? I don’t want to go out fishing and end up having my kayak deflated and then I have to swim 3 miles back to shore…
I use an inshore inflatable. after much research and experience I can tell you these key points.
Saltwater inflatables are made of a different material than freshwater, you aren’t likely to hook it if you pay attention to your gear, and a quality one is made of very durable material.
On a hot day you will inflate it with hot air, when it touches the cold water it slowly looses its internal pressure so you need to take a pump with you, and buy one you can pump while inside of it on the water.
You have far less control over the stability of an inflatable than that of a hard body. wind and current is a much bigger issue with inflatables.
a hard body is much better storage wise, as you can’t incorporate compartments into an inflatable.
