A boat traveled 32 miles down a river and then returned to its original location. The total time for the round trip was 8 hours, and the rate of the current was 3 mph. Find the rate of the boat in still water.
That’s not a geography question, so my answer might be a bit dodgy!
However, as the boat goes down a river and returns, I would say that the speed of the current is irrelevant because it’s cancelled out.
Therefore the speed of the boat in still water is total distance divided by time = (32 x 2)/8+= 8mph
