Water over the transom from roostertail..?
how do i prevent water from coming in from the transom when my engine is running at high speeds making it rooster tail the water into the boat? normally i would trim the engine but its not an option because its only a 12 foot boat with a 9.9 tiller steer and its the only setting that prevents it from submarining
if trimming the motor in makes the bow ride dangerously low, you might have a long-shaft motor on a short-shaft boat.
With the motor in neutral trim (driveshaft parallel with the transom), the antiventilation plate should be about even with the keel; 1 or 2 inches higher would be ideal. If it’s much lower than that, consider building up the transom to raise the motor.
Better yet, look into getting a jackplate or bracket — as much set-back as you can get and still safely operate the motor.
