True fishing Ghost stories?
October is here, time for the dead to walk the earth…so they say. Many of us here have a story of some paranormal event that even in our dreams we couldn’t forget. Maybe a dead fish swimming away with no innards? Lights flickering on a pier with no wiring? A man attacking you on a pier but disappears before the assault? Maybe it’s a person committing suicide but not hearing the splash when they jump off the bridge or cat walk? Long story short.
Uncle had his line in the surf of the next cove. We could see him talking to another fisherman. When
he joined us later, I asked him, “who’s your friend?” Uncle said, “What friend? I was there all alone.”
He had his pole set and lay down to rest. A sudden weight on his chest filled him with terror. He could
hardly breathe. The heaviness lifted just as quickly as it started. He ran off the pier, stumbled on the sand, crawled on the grass. Opening the car door he took a flying leap and blacked out. Next morning
he went to the pier to retrieve his gear. There tied to the first eye of his pole waved the wax paper that
had wrapped his pork sandwich–that was to have been his dinner last night.
