Has anybody ever used the Sevylor Tahiti inflatable kayak?
I’ve always wanted a kayak, but for whatever reason, never got one. But now, I feel like getting one. My only vehicle is a convertible (and I don’t want to invest tons of money in any special carriers), so I’m looking for an inflatable kayak that is cheaply priced. I’ve been reading pretty good reviews about the Sevylor Tahiti (as long as the skeg is used). Does anybody have any experience with it? I’d say I’d be in it by myself most of the time, and would generally be doing lakes with a possible slow moving creek or river over time (hopefully!). I was also looking at a Coleman 2 Person Sit-On-Top inflatable (a package deal on amazon). Any suggestions/comments/ideas are appreciated. Thank you!

I’ve paddled Sevylor inflatables and found them to be a drag — slow and hard to steer, not much better than an air mattress, and certainly not what I would call fun. Based on appearance, I would say the Coleman’s look pretty clunky as well.
I admit I am kind of a snob about inflatable boats (I paddle a couple of very expensive folding sea kayaks that cost between $3000 and $5000) but I recently saw one of the Advanced Elements boats at a kayak shop in Ontario and was actually fairly impressed. For around $400 the boats, which have some rigid interior components as well as the inflatable segments, have a decent keel line and look to be well constructed. They fit in a duffel sized pack you could easily fit in the trunk of any car.
There is an excellent website www.paddling.net that has user reviews of virtually every kayak in existence plus links to manufacturers and good advice on selecting a boat for yourself. I recommend it for anyone starting out.
