Question about 1985 mercury marine boat engine?
I have never had any issues in the past, but recently I had a situation where the engine stalled out upon engaging the engine. This happened 3 straight times before I decided to let the engine run a while before then engaging it. It worked fine after that, but wasn’t certain what the cause was at that point. Should I be concerned?
You didn’t tell us what type of Merc you have so it’s not an easy answer to give. You could have had dirt in the carb that choked it out until it blew thru, a fuel pump that is beginning to go bad, dirt in your fuel tank that got picked up, a clogged gas/water separator, etc.
If it happens again it is recommended that you have a mechanic look at it quickly. The reason could be a simple fix or much more detailed and expensive.
