buying a tinny/dingy, what should i look for?
i want to buy a small tinny/dingy for the summer fishing around port phillip and western port. i dont really wanna spend much more than 1500 for boat+trailer and lifejackets etc. something with a small motor, 3-4 metres, aluminium, big enough for 2 people. doesnt matter if its a piece of sh*t, as long as it floats im only planning on keeping it for the summer.
i want to be able to take it in fairly shallow depths too, 3-5 feet, in western port, so which hull is best but also offers a little stability?
problem is i have s small car (98 daewoo lanos hatchback) i dont want to sell. i have taken it to pedders who have told me it should be right to tow a small tinny as long as the weight + trailer is under 500kg, and the toungue load is under 50kg.
i’ve noticed that boatsales is more expensive than ebay, is there any reason for that? where else should i look?

Engine is the value – have you got a friend that actually knows what they are doing? (A broker or mechanic would be good) Any tinny under 14 foot with say a 15 or 25 outboard would be fine to tow, assuming the trailer is fair. Will need less than a foot or water to float and less than two for unrestricted drive. A smaller tinny less of everything – including stability.
1500 – 2000 should easily find what you want.
Call marine dealers and boatyards – you never know. Newspaper classifieds are useful, so read the paper every day. You may have to look at a few until the right one shows up, start of Summer so not a bad time to shop but prices are rising with the season too.
