I have a bad fear of deep water?

Ever since I was little, I’ve had a fear of deep water. Cartoons where the character is above the ocean, lake, etc freak me out. Looking at an ocean or stepping in it freaks me out. Watching a movie like Oceans scares the crap out of me. I try to ignore it when I swim in a pool but I’ll be floating in the middle of the pool and suddenly the realization that I’m in deep water or near it makes me panic. How do I get over this? Forcing myself to be in or near deep water isn’t working.

Well if your saying forcing your self isnt working but i had the same problem i was swimming in a 12′ pool but had never went lower then 7′ my goal was to be able to touch the bottem yet each time i did it or tried id panic affraid i wouldnt be able to breath. I will admit im a good swimmer just not good with the deep water, after a while i started at 8 push myself down until my feet touched then id push off bottom and id be up in a second and each day id go a little bit deeper just to feel comfortable also get goggles they help to see what your doing and youll know where the bottem is made me feel alot more comfortable, each day i kept going now i can swim to 12 feet and sit on the bottom for a minute then push myself off and im back at the top……good luck i know its not easy just keep trying
