Formula for Calculating pounds of resistance when rowing a boat?
I’m training for kayak racing this summer. I would like to accurately determine the amount of resistance that a single paddle stroke generates, so I can set up a specific routine. I’m sure there must a formula that no doubt uses the area of the paddle face, length of the handle, and possibly the size and/or weight of the kayak. I am interested only in a formula here, not workout advice. Thanx.
There is no formula and cannot be.
Too many variables.
What is the shape of the paddle face?
What is the shape of the force in your power stroke?
What path does the paddle take when you stroke?
How smooth is the surface of the kayak?
What is the material of the kayak and are there any coatings on it?
What is the wetted surface area?
How steady is the kayak while you are paddling?
The only real way to do it for you is to connect a strain gauge on the paddle and do some experiments.
