Why does the world
shake so much?
Is it itching?

Do the strands
bend the same way
because there is only one wind?

Why are there places
in the world
where I can’t go?
…down there,
on the narrow end,
where the whip is,
…up there,
on the busy end,
where ivory and glass wait,
…under there,
on the soft place,
where claws can reach?

Why won’t the world stay between
the insulation and the sheetrock,
…in the crack
where the world chewed
a whole in the vinyl siding
and made a rat’s nest?

How much can a flea understand?
