Can’t remember the title to a book?
I read a really great book about 5 years ago and I can’t remember what it was called. It was in oprahs book club and i’m guessing it’s 10 to 15 years old. Its fiction but like a memoir. It’s about a girl I can’t remember her name. She lives with her aunt who is named May. They don’t get along very well and may is a very strict woman who is very hard and set in her ways. The girl meets a boy, i think his name was Rubie (Ruby? sp) when she is with a friend lounging on a raft or boat on a lake. They fall in love. Long story short Ruby ( who was mentally unstable and had a history of violence and trouble throughout the book) ends up killing May in the basement when he snaps on her. I think he beat her with a fire poking stick. He ends up going to jail and the girl still talks to him. I remember the final line of the book was ” That’s where I get the gumption.”
