Question About Memory Loss?

Hi there I am 13 years old and when I was about 8 a bad thing happened. We have a large pool deck which has wood covering it and i was running around and my brother got mad at me and I wouldn’t stop running. So he took a our canoe paddle and threw it at my feet tripping me and falling backwards taking a pretty good hit to the back of my head. I was knocked out and then on top of that he dragged me into our pool while I was unconscious. I was under the water for probably 10 seconds or less until my dad dragged me out. After that all I could remember is coughing up water and I didn’t even remember running around or what happened. Ever since then I cant retain as much information in school and at home when I am told directions or when to do something. Also if i set something down I have a hard time remembering where i put it. Please only leave a serious answer and answer as soon as possible thank you!!
So my question are my problems listed above related to this incident or what?

Maybe, maybe not. You are apparently worried about this problem Did you talk to your parents about it? If not, you need to. Blows to the head that knock you out should always be examined. Did they take you the the doctor? I think it would be good if you were seen by a neurologist who could order a variety of tests to rule out physical causes of your memory loss. You probably had a concussion. They didn’t know it then, but now doctors are finding out that concussions several years ago do have an impact later on in life. They found this out by studying football players who experienced concussions when they played. This has been in the news a lot lately because Aaron Rogers of the Green Bay Packers had two concussions this season. Now he wears a special helmet. And he’s going to need it on Superbowl Sunday!
