What is the purpose of a high rise plate on a Volvo Penta 3.0L GS?
There is a plate that sets between the two gaskets that go between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust riser. Its number 76 in this picture http://www.marinepartsexpress.com/VP_Schematics/GAS/MD%203.0GL_3.0GS/COOLING%20%20%20LUBRICATION.pdf
What is the importance of this? If any? I removed the riser today off of my boat, 1997 Caravelle 1900 BR 1997 Volvo Penta 3.0L GS, and this piece was not installed. Is it important? Do i need to order one?
Also should their be water coming out of the prop on my perticular unit? Water dumps out near the transom but there in no water coming out of the prop, only steam.

As for the water coming out above the prop, are you talking about the small fins that are about where the upper and lower unit meet? Its a SX Cobra Drive I dont know if I mentioned that earlier.
It’s a restricter plate. This slows down the coolant water from rushing thru the block and either running to cold, or not allowing the coolant to collect enough heat and carry it a way. Yes it should be there.
I would change the thermostat The water coming from the transom is pressure by-pass. you should get a good flow from the exhaust outlet above the prop. You will get no flow out of the prop hub as it doesn’t work that way.
